Biography[]

Early life and career begginings[]

Richard Brooks was born on February 25, 1988 in Brooklyn, New York, New York, USA to Mina Brooks and her unknown boyfriend, when they were dating. He discovered his rapping abilities at age 8. He was supported by his mother throughout all his childhood to start his career. His mother was killed on a car crash when he was 15, and he released a mixtape in her honor, Still With Me. In 2007, he released his second mixtape, After 4 Years, which included the song "Love Affair", a collaboration with Sarah Simpson. In the following two years, he released two other mixtapes, Tears Are Gone in 2008 and Don't Fuck My Money in 2009. In 2010, he was signed to Early Money Records.

Decomposable (2010-2011)[]

Brooks started recording his debut album, Early Money Presents: Young Prince, in 2010. The same year he released his debut single "Decomposable", which charted in the Top 10 in the US and topped the US Rap and Hip Hop charts. On December of the same year, he released the second single of his album, "Rain", which featured Sarah Simpson. That started an argument between Brooks and Early Money Records, because Simpson was part of the rival recording company.

On 2011, Brooks and Early Money Records parted ways, so his debut album was not released. Instead, on July 17, 2011 he released his EP, Decomposable, which featured five tracks that would have been featured in the album, a live performance, a remix and a music video.

Record deal with Young Life Records and Young Prince, Low Price (2012-2013)[]

In early 2012, Brooks joined forces with Young Life Records and instantly started recording his debut album Low Price. The first single, "I'm a Rockstar, Bitch" featuring Sarah Simpson, was released in July 2012 and topped the charts in more than 10 countries, including the US and UK, and also the US Rap and Hip Hop charts.

The second single, "Gimme My Muny", released in October 2012, was a commercial failure, being his first single not to chart in the Billboard Hot 100. On December 3, he redeemed himself with the Bart Simpson featured single "Low Price", which entered the Top 10 in 10 countries. "Damn", a deluxe edition bonus track, was released as a radio-only single on December 4, 2012.

On December 11, he released his album Young Prince, Low Price, which topped the US Rap and Hip Hop charts.

He announced he would promote his album in a 2013 tour supported by rapper Rapsta Chik, the I'm a Rockstar Tour. On December 22, two songs by Rapsta Chik featuring Prince were released in the USA, "Mousetrap (Snapped Up My Heart)" and "TGIF (Celebration Remix)". On December 31, to end the Young Prince, Low Price era, Prince re-released "Gimme My Muny" in Australia, North America and Asia. The remastered version included a B-side, the remix of the song featuring Chik, that had been leaked on December 23.

I'm a Rockstar: The Greatest Hits, Rapping It Up and movie debut (2013-present)[]

In a 2012 interview with Ryan Seacrest, he revealed he had already started working on another studio album. On January 8, Prince uploaded the cover of "Celebration", the song that would be his next single. He also announced he would premiere it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on January 9.

The second single, "Fall for You", was released as a single on February 2, 2013 in the US, and on February 7, 2013 in the rest of America and Europe. The CD single features "Find Myself" as a B-side in America and the Just Blaze Remix of "Celebration" in Europe.

On February 25, 2013, I'm a Rockstar: The Greatest Hits was released by Young Life Records featuring both singles released on January and February.

A conversation between Prince and Rapsta Chik was leaked to the web, in which they discussed about a single called "Fuck With Me". The single was released on May 31, 2013, with its accompaning music video being released on June 26, 2013. "Killing Me Softly" featuring Sarah Simpson was released as the album's second single on July 3, while "Get Yourself Back Home" with Jane Mik was released as the third single on July 9.

On July 15, it was announced Prince would direct and star on the musical drama film Black Soul, alongside Helena Fasesha. He made his first live appearance since the I'm a Rockstar Tour on September 1, at the iTunes Festival, where he premiered new songs from his then upcoming second studio album. On September 21, he performed at Rock in Rio, where he announced the title of the album, Rapping It Up.

The album was released on December 19, 2013, to positive reviews by critics and public. Prince will embark on the Brooks Family Tour with Mik and sister Felicia to promote the album in January 2014.
