YouTube begginings[edit | edit source]
Mik started uploading covers to YouTube at the age of 19, 2009. Her first upload was a cover of Adele's "Chasing Pavements", which got to number 76 on the iTunes US charts. On June 28, 2010, she released a cover of Etta James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me" that went viral a few days after its release.
On December 2012, Mik stopped using her YouTube account claiming she was searching for a more serious career. As of February 2013, she has 970,000 suscribers.
2012-2014: Record deal, collaborations and Superhero[edit | edit source]
In early 2012, Mik got noticed by rapper Young Prince and signed to the record label Young Life Records. She was featured on "Chart-topper King", a track on Prince's debut album and also recorded the lead single from The Simpsons: A New Generation's second soundtrack album through Sunstorm Records and Young Life Records. In February 2013, she parted ways with Young Life Records and was signed to Low Price, Young Prince's record label.
Her cover of Cher Lloyd's "Superhero" released on March 26, 2013, became viral after its release on YouTube and was serviced as the lead single of Superhero on the same day. Her follow-up single, "Get Yourself Back Home", became one of the highest-selling singles of 2013. It was released as a collaboration with Young Prince on July 9, 2013, and instantly became a hit. Superhero was released on November 14, 2013, to positive reviews by critics, peaking at number one in the US. She embarked on the Brooks Family Tour in January 2014 to promote the album.
2014-present: L O V E[edit | edit source]
Mik's second studio album, L O V E, was released on April 28, 2014, without prior announcement, surprising most fans. The album was recorded between April 24 and 26, 2014, including also songs intended for her debut album Superhero which didn't make the final tracklist. Mik explained she decided to record, produce and release the album in that short period of time "in honour of a friend who had died a few days before".
