I'm the One is a single by Springfield girl group Under the Radar, serving as the lead single from their upcoming third studio album. "I'm the One" marks the group's first single since 2017, their first since reforming in early 2020, and their first featuring new member Ashley Simpson.

Promotion[]

The group announced their reformation in early 2020, but hid the fact that Simpson had been added as the fourth member, saying they had been reformed as a trio with just Shai, Demos, and Ferreira. During one of the interviews for her remix album Club Electroheart: The Remix Album, Mira Shai confirmed that new material from Under the Radar was on the way, possibly for release at the end of the month. A song title called "I'm the One" was leaked online in the later months of August. On August 29, the song was leaked online, confirming Simpson as the fourth member of the album. After the leak, Shai confirmed the song would be released on August 30.

Composition[]

"I'm the One" is a dance-pop and EDM song, featuring the four members of the group trading verses. The song was written to celebrate feminism and girl power, Shai raps the second verse solo, with Simpson getting the bridge to show her vocal improvement in the five years since her initial retirement from music. "I'm the One" was produced by DJ TRAKZ.

Critical Reception[]

The song received good reviews upon leak, with many complimenting the song as something that showed that the girl group was finally back for good in all their glory. Adrianna Morgan also complimented Simpson's bridge, pointing out that "I'm the One" wasn't just a triumphant return for Under the Radar, but also for Ashley Simpson.

Music Video[]

The video was released on August 30, 2020. The video opens with Rapsta Chik announcing "after three years, it's time, the return of Under the Radar!". A curtain is lifted and four silhouettes are shown, as the lights click on and the four members of the band each get their own introductory name card. Wearing red military inspired outfits, they strut down the steps as the chorus hits. The girls are then shown still in the same military outfits wielding guns, being trained. As the bridge comes on, the girls march into battle wielding their guns as faceless robotic creatures begin advancing on them. They shoot them down with pink glitter shooting from the guns. The video fades out as the girls pose in the smoking and glitter filled battlefield, while the curtain closes, a message from the group thanking fans for their support during the hiatus is shown.
