Graggle Gregory Simpson (born April 30) is a beloved oddity of the Simpsons Family. He is also one of the six main characters in The Simpsons TV series in throughout season 1-29. His exact relation to the rest of the Simpsons family has been left ambiguous throughout the entire duration of the series. He lives in Bart's treehouse and works with Homer at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Graggle is also a frequent visitor of Moe’s Tavern throughout the series. He often gets himself involved in Homer's wacky hijinks, resulting in hilarity and chaos to ensue. Though Graggle was considered a breakout character in the series, he was often the center of controversy. His character was quietly written off the show in Season 30 due to Disney putting some of the edgier Simpson's characters on hold. Some characters shortly returned to the show, leaving Graggle too slowly leave the consciousness of millions until a post on 4chan reminded everyone about Graggle's existence. He has since reappeared in Homer's Crossing. Much to the delight of fans.
Trivia
- Matt Groening first conceived the character of Graggle as a self-insert character. In an interview, James L. Brookes said "He [Matt Groening] kept trying to shoehorn Graggle into the show. Believe it or not, that is how Matt Groening sees himself. He wanted him to be good friends with Bart and replace Millhouse. The writers and the studio were concerned about how this would alter the show." Despite the criticism, Groening moved forward with the character, tweaking the character's design and narrative with great success.
