Daniel James Gurney was the son of Troy Gurney and Jen Boulevard and the older brother of Mabel Simpson. He is Marge Simpson's maternal great-great-great-grandfather, and Homer's paternal great-great-great-granduncle. He provided aid to his sister and future brother-in-law when they were on the run from the authorities for threatening to shoot Colonel Wainwright Montgomery Burns. He let Mabel and Virgil stay at his cottage for a couple days until the authorities stopped searching for them.
Daniel James Gurney was born to Troy Gurney and Jen Boulevard in 1826. His younger sister, Mabel, would arrive two years later in 1828.
Daniel's parents, Troy and Jen, serve as common ancestors to both Homer and Marge, making them fifth cousins (as they have the same great-great-great-great-grandparents).
